ICTs in Québec and Canada
The ICT sector contributes significantly to Canada’s GDP. In 2015, the sector generated a GDP of $71.3 billion, or 4.4% of the Canadian GDP. The Canadian Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector was comprised of more than 37,400 businesses in 2015.
With more than 7,300 locations, revenue estimated at more than $33 billion in 2013 and more than 130,000 jobs in 2014, the Québec Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry plays a prominent role in the Québec economy and enhances Québec’s global reach.
The ICT industry alone accounts for 5.1% of Québec’s GDP and 3.1% of its workforce. Its annual growth in GDP over the last 13 years has outstripped overall economic growth by a factor of 2.2.

Québec : fertile ground for R&D investments
The ICT industry contributes the most, by far, to the development of Québec as an innovative society.
Every year, between 800 million and one billion dollars are invested in ICT research and development.
Quebec benefits from a powerful innovation ecosystem made up of 18 universities, 49 CCTTs and various research centers spread out across Québec. Many big businesses in the high-technology sector, such as Autodesk, Ciena, Dassault Systèmes, Ericsson, Fujitsu, Google, IBM, Siemens, Teledyne DALSA, Thales Canada, and others, have chosen to pursue their activities in Québec. Thus, Québec can draw from an important pool of top research talent.
Moreover, ICTs are backed by various associations, accelerators, industrial clusters and R&D consortiums, like Prompt, that stimulate growth in the sector.
